Mod 10 Performance Demonstration
Instructions
For this demonstration you will be asked to come to the College for skills practice and an evaluated performance demonstration with the instructor.
Please read all of the instructions below to ensure that you are fully prepared prior to attending the in-person class.
Part 1: Preparation
Prior to attending the class, we ask that you review all of the following videos. We will have limited time in the class and need to have every student prepared to start practicing the skills immediately. Watch each video below, review the procedures in your textbook and take notes as needed.
Note: You will only be able to stream the videos and NOT Download them
Required (You may be tested on these skills, depending on the scenario you are given below)
Part 2: Questions and Concerns

Part 3: Practice
You will be given a few hours to practice the skills covered in the textbook and videos prior to the evaluated performance demonstrations.
Part 4: Scenarios
For your performance demonstration you will be randomly given one of the following scenarios to perform: Please be prepared to perform all of them.
Purpose:
The goal of this assignment is to walk students through the process of utilizing their skills in critical thinking and medications administration to correctly and safely administer topical or oral medications. It is understood that any medication administration task would first be taught, monitored and signed off (delegated) by a registered staff member of the agency, group home, retirement home or long-term care facility that employs the PSW.
Required:
For the following client scenario(s), locate the corresponding medication label(s).
Outline and demonstrate the appropriate steps to follow when administering the medication.
Report and/or record on the Documentation Sheet provided
Scenarios:
Mr. Salim Chadhari is an 83-year-old client who lives at home and receives supportive care due to his limited mobility, which is a result of advanced emphysema. Mr. Chadhari is currently experiencing allergic conjunctivitis due to an allergy to ragweed and is receiving Optivar i gt OU bid. You have been trained and monitored by your supervisor, who is an RN, and are now delegated to give Mr. Chadhari his 0800 dose of Optivar when you are his caregiver.
Miss Hilda Green is your 55-year-old client with Pick’s disease. Miss Green is also hypertensive and receives Lopresor 50 mg po bid. You have been trained and monitored by your supervisor who is an RN and are now delegated to give Miss Green her 1600 dose when you are her caregiver. Today when you give Miss Green her medication she spits it out and then firmly clamps her lips shut.
Mr. Rex Snow is an 89-year-old client with severe osteoarthritis and increasing confusion not yet diagnosed. Mr. Snow has developed a case of nail fungus in both of his great toes. Owing to his inability to reach the affected area you have been delegated the task of applying Cyclopirox nail lacquer once daily until Mr. Snow’s symptoms are gone. Following each application, you are to ensure Mr. Snow puts on a clean pair of cotton socks.

You will be given approximately 20-30 mins to complete the scenario. Consider the following:
