Instructions

For this demonstration you will be asked to come to the College for skills practice and an evaluated performance demonstration with the instructor.

Please read all of the instructions below to ensure that you are fully prepared prior to attending the in-person class.

Part 1: Preparation

Prior to attending the class, we ask that you review all of the following videos. We will have limited time in the class and need to have every student prepared to start practicing the skills immediately. Watch each video below, review the procedures in your textbook and take notes as needed.

Required (You may be tested on these skills, depending on the scenario you are given below)

  1. Performing Hand Hygiene

  2. Donning and Doffing PPE

  3. Applying Restraints

  4. Moving a Client in Bed

  5. Positioning in Bed

  6. Transferring the Client from bed to wheelchair with a transfer belt

  7. Transferring the Client to a Commode

  8. Transferring the Client to a Stretcher

  9. Assisting with Ambulation

  10. Assisting with Range of Motion

  11. Transfer with a mechanical lift

  12. Assisting a Client in a Wheelchair

Part 2: Questions and Concerns

Part 3: Practice

You will be given a few hours to practice the skills covered in the textbook and videos prior to the evaluated performance demonstrations.

Part 4: Scenarios

For your performance demonstration you will be randomly given a scenario to perform: Please be prepared to perform all of the skills outlined above.

Part 5: Performance Demonstration (35 marks)

You will be given approximately 20-30 mins to complete the scenario. Consider the following:

  1. Prepare environment and materials (5 marks)

  2. Apply safety precautions (5 marks)

  3. Correct procedural steps (5 marks)

  4. Communication with Client/Team (5 marks)

  5. Observation Skills/ Problem Solving (5 marks)

  6. Confident and competent approach (5 marks)

  7. Appropriate time frame for a student (5 marks)
